AASHTOWare Data Integration Framework Phase 2

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) initiated the AASHTO Data Integration Project in 2018 to identify interfaces that AASHTOWare (AW) products should have with each other and with other enterprise systems at State Departments of Transportation (DOTs). As an extension to this foundation, looking towards modernization, an API design project using the OpenAPI 3.0 standard is now also under way.

Project Overview

The next phase of this effort is the design and later implementation of a standardized RESTful Application Programming Interface (OpenAPI 3.0) for AASHTOWare.

Once developed, these APIs can be used to provide functionality from AW products active in DOT enterprise systems (including AW products). The design, development, testing and implementation of the APIs involve multiple stakeholders, including AASHTO Data Oversight Committee, T&AA, AW Product Task Forces, AW Product Contractors and State DOTs.

Tech Sessions/Exercises

Monthly updates based on collaboration sessions to provide hands-on activities. These exercises reflect work in progress drafts of the API - suitable for an early start or preview introduction.

API Documentation

Composed using the popular Swagger Editor and related tooling, the OpenAPI specification is provided as interactive document. Corresponding client and server starter libraries are published against the incremental drafts.

Collaboration

Join the discussion. There are variety of opportunities to participate in the technical dialogs during the AW API design and implementation. These open forums help to frame the details and aspects that will drive the initiative to the greatest innovation.
